Welcome to Squirrels.
I really hope everyone is ready for a jam-packed, but fun-filled half-term. Our next Topic will explore the question ‘What is Survival Instinct?’ which will lead us to look at plants and some geography skills in order to try and answer this question. We will gain more knowledge of parts of plants, as well as their life cycle and pollination. We are also looking at some field work in geography; learning more map skills and completing orienteering activities. We are looking at having a great trip to an outdoor adventure centre too, that will really help us to further these skills, as well as skills in confidence and team building. In English, we will be exploring poetry, with a particular aim to further our reading and writing skills; broadening our vocabulary and comprehension. We will be looking at poetic devices and figurative language alongside a range of poems to compare and contrast. We will be creating our own poems at the end of the year. Part of our week will focus on reading activities and reading for pleasure. Children all have a reading book and diary. Please try and read with your child at least 4 times a week. There are class prizes on offer for those that consistently read at home. Spellings will be practised in lessons now but children are expected to be looking at the Year 3 and 4 statutory spelling list at home. Our Mathematics learning will move now to look at time, geometry and statistics. We will also be consolidating all our learning from this year. We will continue to practise our arithmetic and fluency in all areas as well as explore lots of problem solving across the maths curriculum. Times table practise is still imperative. Our Multiplication Tables check will be taken this half term, so get squeezing in that practise any time you can. PE will take place on Mondays and Tuesdays. Please make sure children come to school in the correct kit on these days – black bottoms, a white top and their school jumper/cardigan. Keep checking our page to see photos of all the fun we will be having with our learning back at school!
